Greener Henley is a leading climate and nature action charity based in Henley-on-Thames.

We bring our community together – individuals, schools, businesses, sports club, faith groups and local organisations – to take practical action to protect what we all value most: our families, our homes, our town, and the nature that surrounds us.

We are building a broad coalition of local people and partners who are ready to act. Through our Pledge for the Planet platform alone, hundreds of individuals and organisations across the town have already made a public commitment to positive change.

Rooted in the community since 2008 and registered as a charity in 2024, our approach is a model that other communities are beginning to follow.

What We Do

Our work runs across four programmes:

  1. Pledge for the Planet – a simple way for everyone to act, whose cumulative effect drives positive change across our whole community.
  2. Community events and activities – bringing Henley together throughout the year, including Great Big Green Week every June.
  3. Green Futures Awards – The UK’s first independently-run, local awards programme supporting schools in the Henley area to take climate and nature action, and the first schools awards programme in the country to embed resilience into everyday learning and operations.
  4. Nature Squared – a nature recovery campaign to link 5000 m² of local nature habitat by the end of 2030.

Why it matters

Nature is in crisis and our climate is changing fast. Communities like ours – practical, connected, proud of where we live – are showing how this country responds.

Greener Henley exists to make taking action as easy and as visible as possible. What’s good for Henley, it turns out, is good for the planet.

We are a registered charity (No. 1211510), led by volunteers and supported by a small core team.
